Gergely Szurgyi was born in 1994 in Szolnok. He started playing the guitar at the age of nine. His first teacher was Zsolt Rímes. In 2008, he applied to Ede Roth's class at the Béni Egressy Conservatory. In 2013, he was admitted to the István Széchenyi University, where he continued to work under Ede Roth's professional guidance. In 2017, he graduated as a guitar teacher and applied for András Csáki's class at the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. In 2019, he graduated as a guitarist and then enrolled at the University of Music in Nuremberg, where he is currently studying with Sebastian Montes and Björn Colell.

Gergely Szurgyi had success at many national and international competitions. In addition to his solo play, he also avalues chamber music. With his friends he founded the Tritonus Guitar Trio in 2014 and has since achieved many successes with them. Their biggest achievement was winning the first prize of the 2019 Guitar Foundation of America Ensemble Competition in Miami.
