On the day of St. Cecilia patron saint of music, wonderful flute melodies will fill the Till Ottó Hall. The colorful concert begins with music from the Baroque era, glimpses at classics then reaches a piece that is perhaps the most remarkable and beautiful of French flute literature, Francis Poulenc's Sonata.

But let's not rush ahead, as the first part has more beauty in store: the popular Händel work which opens the concert is often played on the oboe or violin. The third movement of the sonata is a beautiful siciliano and the piece ends with a cheerful 12/8 movement.

A sad aspect of Bach's B minor sonata is that its Largo e dolce second movement was written in memory of his wife who died in 1720.

Mozart's popular Andante in C moves us forward in time, then after the break we'll enjoy two outstanding works of 20th century music. The fourth, Allegro con brio, movement of Prokofiev's concerto has been masterfully constructed in tertms of technique and emotionality alike. After a nice dreamy mid-section, the return and the subsequent finale make this work and concert unforgettable.
