Viva la mamma! is a kind of "opera within an opera," as the original Italian title suggests: Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali, (Conventions and Inconveniences of the Stage). It gives you a glimpse into the inner world of opera, makes fun of the director, the arrogant singers whose most important priority is their appearance in the playbill, the quarrels between the composer and the lyricist. The news comes in the middle of the squabble: there is no money to stage the show. Urban leaders are afraid of failure, so they decided not to support the theater. The artists pooled their money, just to be able to perform, and who else would lead the collection than the mother of the seconda donna, Mamma Agata, sung by a male singer following the author's intent!
This great comic opera is the first production of the András Fehér Opera Company which was founded in the autumn of 2018. The singers pay tribute to their mentor and director by naming the company after him. With him they entertained the audience of the Társaskör by presenting several opera cross-sections. The company is committed to staging audience-friendly operas as evidenced by their choice of title that is sure to delight the audience in the garden of the Társaskör.
