Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring
Igor Stravinsky wrote Petrushka, the story of the tragic love of three puppets, and Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring) for the Russian Ballet in Paris, headed by Sergei Diaghilev; both works have become one of the most influential pieces of 20th-century music history.
The author was a master at writing distinctive harmonies that create a magical atmosphere in the aforementioned ballet music. He often illustrates the intermingling of two separate worlds in music: the world of humans and puppets, their distance and contrast. Such is the Petrushka chord, which is actually two superimposed chords: an F-sharp major and a C major (a tritone apart).
The two young artists who play the compositions started playing together in high school. With this concert, their shared dream comes true - to spread the joy of music together for everyone.
