Smetana: String Quartet No. 1, "From My Life"
Dvořák: String Quartet no. 12 in F major "American", op. 96
Pearls of Slavic romantic quartet literature. A popular piece of Tchaikovsky's early career is the string quartet in D major. The famous Andante cantabile movement is often performed separately. Smetana's E-minor Quartet, with its virtuoso tunes, is a challenge to musicians. Dvořák's F major "American Quartet" is perhaps one of the most popular pieces of the genre, the little brother of the New World Symphony, with the captivating beauty of its slow movement, and the jazzy elements of the closing section.
