"So far has been played on 67 stages, translated into almost all culture languages and currently preparations are under way in 108 theaters to present it. For the sake of these premieres, I always travel around the world, I do not have a permanent home, my hotel rooms are my home." said Pál Ábrahám in an interview at the pinnacle of his success at the Budapest premier of The Rose of Hawaii in 1931. The operetta writer had an adventurous life: before and after his world success, he had to cope with serious financial difficulties. As royalties came in, they were used to cover accrued debts. His search for livelihood led him on a Europe-America-Europe journey. His last years were spent in a sanatorium in Hamburg due his deepening depression.
