MUSIC IN THE GARDEN

Snétberger Trio

Ferenc Snétberger - guitar (D / H)
Phil Donkin - double bass (D / UK)
Toni Snétberger - drums (D)

Ferenc Snétberger, an internationally renowned guitarist and composer in Berlin, has created an independent style in the past decade. His virtuoso and highly sensitive play, his unique "classical-jazz-Brazilian" compositions are recognized not only in Europe but also across the sea. His 2016 debut at  ECM was followed by a trio recording TITOK (SECRETS) in April 2017. The brand new trio will play this material for the Óbuda audience, with British bassist Phil Donkin and Sneteberger's son Toni Snétberger on the drums.

Ferenc Snétberger was born into a Hungarian family of musicians. Initially, Django Reinhardt and Egberto Gismonti had an impact on him, and during his years at the Bartók Béla Conservatory, he discovered his boundless love for Bach. Snétberger, celebrated by critics and audiences, is one of the most unique representatives of contemporary guitar music - a special virtuoso who knows no boundaries. A guitar magazine says: "What he plays is jazz, is classical, is Brazil. Snétberger's great art is the dialogue between today and yesterday, the synthesis."

Phil Donkin was also born into a family of musicians in Sunderland, UK. His career was fast-paced up in his home country and was soon hailed in Europe as one of the premier bass players of his generation, having worked with the likes of Kenny Wheeler, Evan Parker, Tim Garland, Marc Copland and Bill Stewart and, during his New York stay, with Mark Turner, Seamus Blake and Steve Cardenas.
Toni Snétberger, the son of Ferenc Snétberger, was born in Germany. He started playing music with his dad.
